Rich Cullen
Rich Cullen was born and raised in Spokane. He played multiple sports growing up but fell in love with goalkeeping from the first moment he stepped on the field as a 4 year old. From humble beginnings, Rich progressed to the Region IV ODP pool and eventually played college soccer at the U.S. Air Force Academy. He is a four-year letterman at Air Force, and a three-time all conference selection. He was chosen by the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer in the 2000 Superdraft and spent a year as a developmental player dressing periodic games in the back-up role.
Rich then went on to play for the Seattle Sounders of the United Soccer Leagues First Division from 2001-2003. After two years as a back-up starting the occasional game, Rich got his chance in the starting role and shined. He led the Sounders to the A-League’s (USL-1) semi-finals and was selected to the 2nd team all-league.
Still serving in the active duty Air Force in 2003, Rich was chosen for assignment back to the Air Force Academy to become an assistant coach for the Men’s Soccer program. Rich moved back to Spokane in 2007 and has been coaching at the youth club and collegiate levels since then.
Rich remains a member of the Washington Air National Guard, serving with the 116th Air Support Operations Squadron.
